Grade 7 core French le 19 mars Passé composé

Mar - 18 2020 | By

  1. Le passé composé as you have learned is composed of 2 verbs.  1= helper verb = avoir – conjugated in the present tense.  Avoir: j’ai, tu as, il/elle a, nous avons, vous avez, ils/elles ont

2nd verb  is the original action verb in the present tense  made into the past participle (le participle passé).

eg: Je parle français = J’ai parlé  français.   Parle in the first example is the action verb. It becomes the past participle in the past tense = parlé.

2. You always need the helper verb to conjugate to the passé composé.  For now we are sticking to the verbs ending in ”er” and therefore all the participe passé verbs end with     é  and the helper verb is always avoir

3. NOTE!! There are always irregular verbs as past participles. Please memorize these 3: avoir, être, faire

Follow the rules for conjugating into Passé composé.

Avoir= eu,  I would use this like this:  J‘ai un chat. = J’ai eu un chat- I have a cat, I had a cat-

-avoir was my main verb but it is also my HELPER verb so I have avoir 2x’s in the passé composé sentence.

être = été

Faire= fait

4. Complétez les phrases au passé composé. Partagez vos réponses avec moi dans un nouveau document.  Share you answers in a doc with me.
