Dear Parents and Caregivers:

We are starting a new unit called Une question d,équité ! In this unit, students will explore the question  “How can we make things more equitable in the world?”

They will read short biography about people who have fought for equity in the world. Furthermore, they will read a variety of texts on equity, among other, a new paper chronicle, a personal recount, a new article, a script of a play and a tale. You are invited to be part of our unit in a variety of ways.

For example:

  • Invite your child to retell some of the stories we read at school.
  • Talk about people who have fought for equity and fairness in the world.
  • Look through newspapers and magazines together for stories that deal with equity and justice. • Talk about characters in books, in movies, or on TV that are good examples of people who fight for equity and justice.
  • Discuss how the concept of equity and justice can change over time.

At the end of the unit, students will show what they have learned by creating a prize or a trophy to honor someone who has fought for justice and equity in the world.

They will use reading, writing, oral, and media skills and strategies to complete the task.

You can support the learning goals for this unit at home by discussing the unit topic, as well as the unit skills and strategies presented in this unit.

Sincerely,

Wanda Canaan
