Hello Everyone,
Over the past 22 years, I have dedicated myself to the education of all children, continuously striving to enhance my teaching practices regardless of my role. Currently, I am privileged to teach French, History, and Geography to grades 6-8 students at OJCS.
In my role, I focus on two main areas in French instruction: aligning with the Ontario National Curriculum and preparing students for the DELF exam. I am pleased to share that since my arrival at OJCS, I advocated for and received substantial support from Ms. Gordon and Dr. Mitzmacher to acquire essential resources for introducing these national and international programs. Their unwavering commitment and investment in books and learning materials for our intermediate levels have significantly enriched our educational offerings.
As a certified DELF trainer and examiner, I collaborated closely with the Centre Culturel Français d’Ottawa to coordinate and oversee the DELF exams at our school. I am thrilled to report that all our grade 8 students achieved 100% success in the DELF exam for the second consecutive year. This accomplishment validates their French language proficiency and enhances their academic and professional portfolios, opening doors to opportunities in 160 countries where DELF certification is recognized.
The DELF exam evaluates students’ abilities across listening, speaking, reading, and writing in French, providing them with official recognition that lasts a lifetime. This certification is crucial for future educational and career pursuits, often being a requirement for admission to francophone postsecondary institutions and recognized by employers globally.
I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all our grade 8 Extended French students for their outstanding achievement in the DELF A2 exam of 2024. Your dedication and hard work have not only brought you personal success but have also contributed significantly to our school’s academic excellence.
Warm regards,
Wanda Canaan

The concept of a growth mindset and its importance in education. Growth mindset is not just about effort, but also about trying new strategies and seeking input from others. We also learned that misconception of equating effort with learning, and the need to focus on the goal of learning and improving.
Teachers in helping students develop a growth mindset by appreciating their efforts and guiding them towards new approaches when they are stuck.

OJCS DELF exam success 100%
“There is a floor but no ceiling “
This year grade 8 students were the first class writing the DELF exam in French language and those who took the DELF were 100% successful .
They were so worried and stressed about it but they proved their resiliency and determination and were all successful.
All parents were so grateful to receive an official French certificate that students will use for life and for their future allowing them to get any job in Ottawa that requires bilingual employees.
All the best for our amazing students.
Our Grade 2 Phys-Ed classes always begin with two laps around the gym as a warm-up. We then do several different stretches and body-weight exercises that include the 3 elements of fitness ; endurance, strength and flexibility.
Our Physical Education classes are primarily run in French as we make sure to learn the French vocabulary for our different exercises.
Pompes- Push-ups
Fentes – Lunges
Genoux hauts – High knees
Grimpes Montages – Mountain Climbers
Planche – Plank
Students have enjoyed learning a large variety of games of low-organization. These games are introduced in order to improve motor development and improve physical fitness. Most of these games require minimal equipment and have basic rules.
